Poetry Towards New Worlds

Queer Poetics of Upheaval: Improvising Genres of Collective Life Workshop

Abstract

This presentation is a meditation on a recent conversation and reading event I facilitated with four queer and trans poets: Arab Canadian poet, activist and academic, Trish Salah; George Gordon First Nation and Sipekne'katik First Nation Cree interdisciplinary poet, Arielle Twist; Caribbean, diaspora, Black feminist and queer studies writer, Linzey Corridon; and Jordanian, Lebanese and Palestinian poet, creative, writer, and researcher Leen Amarin. These poets embody and demonstrate queer and trans poetics through their writing practices and their ways of being in the world. Our conversation traverses language, translation, grief, diaspora, uprooting, rhythm and tongues as we hear one another speaking towards new worlds
