Queer Atmospheres Tarot: Attunement, Magic, and Socially-Engaged Arts of Relating

This paper takes the form of a performance-reading considering how tarot, through inviting chance, intimacy, and magic, can (re)mediate the upheaving and tumultuous atmospheres of the complex times we live in. Cartomancy is a site where remedies for ills (interpersonal, health, environmental, or otherwise) are sought, and insights towards possible futures are divined. The Queer Atmospherics Tarot reframes climate arrhythmias (Dimick 2016) as both inherently speculative, interwoven with chance, and the formative rhythms of our times. As an art of storying and relationing, tarot might offer ways to story and relation arrhythmatic climate atmospheres otherwise.
