Vocabulary for the Genocide Economy: A Compendium from Kjipuktuk
Forms of Life And Death
Abstract
Inspired by work from Fred Burrill, Karen Foster, and Ashok Kumar, and drawing on theories of development and structural adjustment, the paper outlines five terms (compiled in Kjipuktuk) that belong in a vocabulary for the "genocide economy" (Albanese 2025): cognitive domain operations, dual use, fog of war, hot cargo, and zone of interest. Given the Government of Canada's roll-out of a major projects office (MPO), projects of national interest (PONI), and spending commitments on arms, defence, military, and security sectors to meet NATO requirements (5% GDP), the vocabulary provides a way of naming significant contradictions in Canadian and global capitalism.
