Violent Labour, Management, and the Mundane in the Irish Republican Army
Forms of Life And Death
Abstract
This paper draws on Irish Republican memoirs to expand on Jacob Shapiro's argument that violent organizations (such as terrorist organizations) should be understood through a reckoning of their mundane practices of operation, more than through their spectacular feats of violence. The idea is an upheaval of normal ways of reckoning violent labour, and also a way to demonstrate how mundane things like committee meetings can be the source of upheavals themselves.
