A Logging Road to the Cosmos: Confronting the Polycrisis Through Ecopoetry

Polycrisis

Abstract

Five hundred years of market capitalism, resource extraction, settler colonialism, genocide, and border maintenance set the stage for the current stacked crises of climate failure, AI tech, the mental health epidemic, and the violent inequities of class, race, gender, and citizenship. Through a discussion of my ecopoetry manuscript A Logging Road to the Cosmos, I argue that poetry has the ability to soak in multiple tentacles of the polycrisis, make them visible, subvert them, satirize them, and even provide alternatives. And, if that fails, the poems will stand as a last defiant rage against the billionaires before they retreat to their bunkers, megayachts, and spaceships.
