Interwoven Worlds: Rethinking Environmental Relationships, Engagement, and Possibilities in Times of Upheaval
Collectives
Abstract
As climate crises intensify, calls for action often focus on expanding participation within existing environmental frameworks. Focusing on racialized migrant women and gender-diverse people engaged in grassroots spaces, this project asks what comes into view when relationships with the more-than-human world are understood as shaped through social, cultural, historical, political, and ecological realities. At a moment demanding ecological, social, and political upheaval, the project suggests that the challenge is not broadening participation within dominant frameworks, but confronting how those frameworks are shaped by colonial histories, unequal power relations, and narrow assumptions about environmental engagement. By attending to lived realities, it explores alternative meanings, practices of care, and possibilities for collective action
