Insurgent AI: Speculative Narratives & Cosmologies

In this 3-hour workshop, Fan Wu and Grayson Richards invite conference attendees to speculate on alternative ways of thinking, being, and acting in the world with and through AI—a project the facilitators call "insurgent AI." Participants will work in small groups to brainstorm and co-author speculative narratives through which liberatory and other possible AI futures can be animated. This workshop forms part of a longer-term research project in which speculative fictions come to function as intermediary design objects, translating alternative futures into technical affordances that can then be prototyped.
