Policing the Post-Secondary Crisis
Basket Weaving And Other Vicissitudes
Abstract
This paper takes as its central preoccupation Canadian post-secondary’s fascistic response to Gaza solidarity encampments to theorize the university’s 2020s carceral intensification. In so doing, it makes a broader claim concerning the general trend to locate the radical potential of the university within “the undercommons,” arguing that the attempt to theorize a position “in but not of” the university abdicates the post-secondary sector as a terrain of struggle and simultaneously betrays a carceral apologetics that reinforces the conditions authorizing our fascist present.
